Some Brief Tips for Wicking Newbies

wicking

When you dive into using for the first time a rebuildable atomizer (RBA) of any kind, especially if it’s a rebuildable dripping atomizer (RDA) or a rebuildable tank atomizer (RTA), you’ll need a wicking material to contain the e-liquid and wick it towards your coil. Everyone has their own direct inclination when it comes to the shapes of the coils, the array of patterns, wire properites, and the wicking materials.

The most frequently used amongst these wicking materials are organic cotton, silica, ekowool, and stainless steel mesh. Depending on the material, the user can locate positives in each type and what would work best with their builds. There are many vapers who start rebuilding and without even realizing, grab a bag of old treated cotton balls to wick their coils. They soon find out it gives them an unpleasant flavor. The reason you don’t want to use treated cotton balls for wicking material is that generally, cotton’s treated with bleaches and dyes to make it appear more “white”.

Well, now you have a bag of cotton, but you don’t want to wick with it. You can still use this cotton, but you’ll have to boil it in distilled water to evaporate the bleaches and dyes. From there it must be air-dried before use. The better and easier alternative to this process is to purchase organic, untreated cotton balls.

Finally, there’s orgainc Japanese cotton. Most people will concur that Japanese cotton is tops out of all these other wicking materials. This is because it holds a lot more of the e-liquid than regular organic cotton, wicks quicker for less dry hits, and has an uncontaminated, clean taste.

There you have it. We hope this quick information will get you off on the right start on your way to wicking properly.
